Before starting emc 2 , Ian was responsible for opening and managing the European operations for the company now known as TIBCO Software Inc. . From opening up the first TIBCO office in Europe in 1991, the European operations grew and within five years represented over 40% of the company's revenue, and 20% of its total employees. TIBCO Software Inc., continues to be a leading provider of software commonly referred to as middleware. Such software is used extensively in many large companies, particularly financial institutions.  After TIBCO’s purchase by Reuters in 1993, Ian became Vice President of Client Technical Services and was the only member of the executive team based outside the head office in Palo Alto.  CTS performed all client delivery activity including sales support, project management, onsite support and maintenance, consulting etc, and accounted for approximately 40% of the 300+ staff.  TIBCO Software was eventually spun out of Reuters and now lists as symbol TIBX on the NASDAQ.

Before joining TIBCO, Ian was Director of IT at Hambrecht & Quist - now J.P.Morgan in San Francisco, a company with a unique record in working with high technology growth companies. Ian began his business career as a consultant and then manager with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in San Francisco and London, with extensive experience in managing large systems integration projects. He has a B.Sc. in Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology.

Ian is a director of Tpoll Market Intelligence Ltd , a company focused on applying smart IT to Market Research to deliver radical client solutions and a director of Catena Technologies Pte Ltd a Singapore-based company specialising in application of new technology to the Financial Services industry in SE Asia. He is a Member of the Institute of Directors, and has passed the Institute's Diploma in Company Direction, a key requisite for achieving Chartered Director status.

Ian has cycled extensively around the world and in the UK, and enjoys tennis, music, film, architecture, gadgets and fine beer. He has been publishing a blog since July 2005, which covers his observations and comments on the areas of interest (and more) listed above.
